Is your outdoor furniture not looking its best these days? If so, don’t rush out to buy new pieces. Instead, you can bring back to life your older pieces with Majic Paints. We have found two of our increasingly popular paint colors to be light yellow and royal blue. Let’s take a quick look at some helpful tips for giving your outdoor furniture a makeover.
Tip 1) Preparing the surface
Before you throw on the first coat of paint, you have to make sure your outdoor furniture is free of mold and mildew. If some of your pieces do have mold and mildew on them, you can remove these elements by using premium cleaner with mildewcide. Or if you prefer, you can mix together three parts water with one part bleach and give the pieces a good scrubbing. Once your outdoor furniture has been well cleaned you can then move on to sanding.
Tip 2) Sanding
All parts of the furniture that you plan on painting need to be sanded. An orbital hand sander does a great job at sanding outdoor furniture. If you have a few pieces that have many old layers of paint built up, you may have to sand down to the bare metal or wood.
Tip 3) Priming and Painting
Now that you’ve properly prepared the surfaces, you can then move on to giving your outdoor furniture a full makeover by priming each piece and then painting. You can choose any color of your liking, and if you want to make a bold statement, consider painting different pieces different colors. Most times, as long as you have one coat of primer, then one coat of Majic Paints brand paint will be enough. We recommend our line of Rustkill paints for outdoor furniture. For wooden pieces, consider our Latex Enamel, which provides a moisture resistant, durable gloss finish.
It’s important that you don’t let your furniture sit outside while the paint is drying. If you do, dirt and dust will dry into the paint. The best place to let your furniture pieces dry is in a well-ventilated area, such as a car garage.
